As the stepmother of a missing Manchester girl appeared in court on Monday, investigators released more information about when the girl went missing. As the stepmother of a missing Manchester girl appeared in court on Monday, investigators released more information about when the girl went missing.

Kayla Montgomery is charged with one count of theft by deception and two counts of welfare fraud. Prosecutors allege that on Nov. 30, 2019, she lied about her stepdaughter, Harmony Montgomery, living with her in order to get benefits.

“The time period covered by this indictment is a time period for which Harmony Montgomery is completely untraceable,” Assistant Attorney General Jesse O’Neill said. “This charge begins when Harmony disappears.”

Investigators have released new information about when Harmony, 7, was last seen. Meanwhile, the Montgomerys were homeless and living without cars, possibly in the North End of Manchester, investigators said. One of the cars was a silver 2010 Chrysler Sebring and the other was a dark blue 2006 Audi S4.

In court, prosecutors said they believed Kayla Montgomery knew something and considered her a flight risk.

“She knows what we’re going to find as the investigation continues,” O’Neill said.

The judge said she had not heard any facts related to that claim and said Kayla Montgomery could be released on a personal recognizance if she completes a rehab program at Nashua.

Manchester Police Chief Allen Aldenberg said the investigation was ongoing.

“A little discouraged, to be honest with you, but that’s not going to stop what we’re doing,” he said. “We met with detectives again this morning, and no one’s head down. No one’s kicking the streets. We’re determined to do what we’re doing here and locate Harmony.”

Adam Montgomery remains in jail for allegedly punching Harmony in the face and obstructing police custody.
