Collector time | Singapore: Former Cargo Officer of “Pearl Melody” Pleads Guilty to Incident of Illegal Transfer of STS with “Apphia 9”


Former Singapore Flag Bunker Oil Cargo Officer Pearl Melody Monday (October 25) pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 408 of the Criminal Code (breach of criminal confidence) in Singapore state courts for a previous incident of illegal transfer of STS.

Danny Lee Chee Keong was sentenced to nine months in jail for stealing marine fuel oil (MFO) from the bunker vessel owned and operated by Consort Bunkers Pte Ltd, according to documents obtained by Collector time.

On June 5, 2021, Danny received a call around 1 a.m. from a representative of a company registered in Malaysia asking if he had an MFO for illicit sales. He replied in the affirmative and was ordered to wait for the Pearl Melody.

the Apphia 9 soon arrived at sea off Eastern Petroleum ‘B’ anchorage, and received approximately 100.906 metric tonnes (mt) of MFO from the Pearl Melody around 2:30 a.m.

The crew of the Apphia 9 was arrested by Singapore Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) forces midway through the illegal operation.
